Pet portraits serve as a significant means of preserving the memory and spirit of beloved animals. The process of creating a pet portrait involves a deep understanding of the animal's unique characteristics, personality, and the emotional bond shared with their owner. This process is not one that I take lightly, and I strive to bring my all in creating a memorable creation for you.
When commissioning a pet portrait, I ask that you try your best to provide me with high-quality photographs that showcase the pet's features and personality. Ideally, these images should be taken in natural light and from various angles to give me a comprehensive view of the pet. This practice increases the likelihood of achieving a lifelike representation, which is crucial for honoring the pet's spirit. If you are local to the Comox Valley and need help in capturing this image, I am happy to provide a home visit with my own camera to achieve this.
The medium chosen for the portrait can significantly impact the final outcome. I prefer to use Acrylic paints for pet portraits, as they are known for their rich colors and depth. However is budget is a hurdle for you, I also offer watercolor paintings that provide a softer, more ethereal effect, that are lower in price than my Acrylic pieces.
In terms of size, pet portraits can vary widely, from small, intimate pieces to large, statement artworks.
A study conducted by the National Endowment for the Arts indicates that larger artworks tend to evoke stronger emotional responses, making them ideal for commemorating cherished pets. Additionally, the placement of the portrait within the home can enhance its significance, serving as a daily reminder of the bond shared.
